As someone who has experienced vocal trauma and surgery, I’ve been pretty protective of who I allow to tinker with my instrument. In only a few lessons, Tyler was able to pinpoint key, conditioned bad habits that have made it difficult for me to produce healthy singing without force, and give me the tools necessary to retrain my muscles and my brain to keep it consistent. His knowledge of multiple techniques has broadened my skillset and given me a new color palette to paint (sing) with in any style with ease. I started working with Tyler after I graduated from University of Michigan, and we instantly clicked. He made me feel supported, and he has this amazing ability to meet you where you are. During my first few months with Tyler, I had more “light bulb” moments than in all of my previous years of voice training. He has helped me to gain a deeper understanding of my voice on an anatomical level; as a professional dancer and kinesthetic learner, I’ve found his approach to be especially effective. I’ve always considered myself a soprano and working on my “mix/belt” comes with a lot of vulnerability and self-consciousness. However, Tyler’s incredible knowledge, patience, and goofiness have helped me feel comfortable experimenting with “belty” sounds that are rooted in awareness and are uniquely my own. It takes a wonderful teacher (and human) to be able to create a judgement-free space for that process.
